English... you have made me blue

English... you have made me blue

A Poem by Lindokuhle Shezi
"

A poem that describes the injustice of English in the academic curriculum. The poem personifies English as a woman that is unfair to her admirer. Exerting effort into something doesn't assure success.

"
English... you have made me blue,
I had once boasted an intimate relationship with you.
I always thought that we held a formidable mutual relationship,
despite the fact that I always felt as if we were losing the grip.

You demand my full attention and care,
but you my repay my efforts with nothing short of thin air.
I have worked hard to be faithful,
but you have crushed my loyalty into a minute handful.

You demand obedience and labor for your love,
however you comply to those who show you none of the above.
To those that try to show you affection,
you show them your cold rejection.

I am contemplating our one-sided association,
you actually might not deserve my appreciation.
I consider conducting myself like the men that mistreat you.
So that by losing your faithful admirer: you too may know how to feel blue.
