Suffocate Me

Suffocate Me

A Poem by Color of the Iris

I'd rather you choke me
Than have you lie to my face
I'd rather you drown me
Than feel you shudder from my embrace

Just suffocate me
If you don't love me
I just keep dying
I can't breathe already

I'd rather you slit my wrists
Than falsely hold and squeeze my hand
I'd rather you smother me
Than hear you say you completely understand

Just suffocate me
If you don't love me
I'm a dying flame
I can't breathe already

You words are beginning to bleed through
And once you start this with me
You know I won't be through with you

So just suffocate me
I know you don't love me
I don't need you
And I can't breathe...

It's so sad and I'm thankful to have never have experienced this. I've seen people go through this. It's a great poem.

this is a sad poem...to rather die than feel the ice cold sting of rejection? and although the poem is beautiful i must dissagree. i love the struggle, to hold onto something i once had with someone. to remember all the good times, to think that they once loved me. but that's just me. i enjoyed seeing the other side of what i never knew...great piece!!

It's sad but the truth is...I know that feeling a little too well. I wish I could say "I don't understand"
It's a pity that a lot of people actually can. There's so much pain in this poem. So much raw emotion. Which I definitely admire. There's something real about it. And that's what I like most about this poem...the words aren't trying. They simply are what they are. I guess I can say these are the words of a broken heart. That's the message I get when I read this.

i know the feeling - of giving your love away as if it was them that are responsible for your well being

when love goes wrong; we miss the love they ignited in us and get mad that they are not igniting us anymore

its a terrible feeling not being able breathe freely

thankfully the body overrides the heart automatically to keep us going

wonderful write of the dark extreme of romantic love/addiction

lisette, this poem was absolutely amazing, just like you.! all of your writing are awesome, but this one has to be one of my favorites.

A thoughtful poem that asks the age old question of why one would stay when he/she know the other is hurting them daily...
On a more personal note, I anticipate being hurt so there are no surprises. However, I've recently learned that I was teaching people how to mistreat me by accepting their behavior.
