1991 Mini Cooper

1991 Mini Cooper

A Poem by Eala Cartwright

I noticed that car immediately Dark, curious and classic It was stood amongst a multitude of other, More modern, flashy models All clamouring for attention, But it was not. There was a mature sense of refinement In the way it revved into life Safe and secure and reliable. Over time, I came to love that car. I came to know every dent on the doors, Every scratch on the hood, And every mile on the metre . Yet it always felt just out of reach. And when that car broke for a time A small part of me broke too. Weeks without that familiar sight, A mixture of dark, curious and classic. Weeks without that familiar sound, The safe, secure and reliable rev of that engine . And nothing was more exhuming Than the moment that car came into view Five weeks later And I found nothing had changed at all
