Bars Ablaze

Bars Ablaze

A Poem by Rachael Hope Nicholson

She thought she saw

It up in the sky

Blistering purple

Magnified eye

Surrounded by

Cottony clouds of grey

Burning stars

Filtered through bars

A fiery jail in which

There was God

In the image of

No it couldn't be

Not God in the

Image of me

Of you and Him

You’re Daughter

My Son

My Father

My Mother

Everyone

Outside of the Bars

Stood the gate keeper

Eyes dead and cold

Gaunt face

Displayed bones

"Why oh why

Do you guard the jail?"

She thought

She saw

It up in the sky

Blistering purple

Magnified eye

Surrounded by

Cottony clouds of grey
