The Dark in the Light

The Dark in the Light

A Poem by L.M.W.

I used to be afraid of the dark.

It wasn't really the darkness that scared me-

No, it was the things that could happen in the dark:

Where no one can see,

Not even me.

As I’ve grown I have confronted the fear,

We have shared thoughts and opinions.

Long ago It tried to scare me with it’s darkness and unknown entities,

But now It has shed light on truths the scared child was not willing to see.

It has shown me that my fears were of sound reason,

But the true dark deeds are done in the light:

Where all can see,

Even you and me.

It has shown that the hollowness I perceived is but an illusion,

For all those in the light hide from true danger in the dark.

The dark has shown me where the real fear should lie,

Now I no longer fear It’s contents.

I used to be afraid of the dark until I looked inside to see faces of fear and cowardice,

Now I keep my back to the dark and keep my eyes on the light where the true enemy lies.

You don't turn your back on what you think may attack.
