A Poem by H
"

Saint Paul, MN

"

Sleep is a bygone luxury

Only the drugs once brought

I saw snow falling

In the light of a street lamp

I too was once that pure

Once that innocent

How far away is Texas?

As far away as my dreams?

Maybe so far as that last drop

Not so much at all.

This is a moving snapshot of your mind. The imagery strikes one immediately. I can see you, wide awake one night, long giving up on sleep, staring out your window watching snow illuminated in the orange streetlights. I've done similar things myself on sleepless nights back in Sheridan. However, my turmoils were much different, then again maybe not. I too was longing for a warmer, far away place that seemed so far away and at the same time, so close. There's a lot people can connect with in this poem. Thanks for posting.

Maybe is the key word in this poem. Maybe implies choice and opportunity or struggle, change or continue. I like the way this poem ends with the decision that is all important made to sound so insignificant. Why do we do that? Well done.
