DawnA Poem by LouiseFor days we waited in the cold, Between decrepit, deadened rows. Along dusty, empty lanes. We murmured to our black chilblains. Marching west to the sound of guns, The wind in thundering monotones. Hissing past our ears and necks, Reminding us of soon despair. When mortars erupt from below our feet. We know there is no more to see. For war is no speech or valorous song. It is just the sacrifices of the known and unknown- Anonymous. For years we'll be waiting in the cold, hard earth, the dead in rows. Until there is no mark of man upon this scared land. So when the dawn raises in the tomorrow, She will not know of this old earth's sorrow.
