Epilepsy

Epilepsy

A Poem by Emily
"

I was diagnosed with Epilepsy when I was in Highschool, it rocked my world to say the least. I almost died, I've gone through brain surgery. This disease is a B***H!

"
Epilepsy you suck,
You take away my energy,
You make my mind go crazy.
Epilepsy you are a b***h!
You keep me up all night,
You make me feel sick.
Epilepsy, YOU have made my life hell.
You've taken things away from me.
You've taken my ability to drive,
My ability to work and be apart of society.
You've put a damper on my family.
You've left me to be the sick epileptic girl.
The girl everyone has to worry about.
Epilepsy, YOU caused me to struggle for 7 years,
Taking 24 pills daily, having brain surgery.
Epilepsy you are a horrible disease that nobody can visually see.
A disease that leaves you with so many questions.
So please Epilepsy, stay away from me, let me remain seizure free.
Let me move on with my life, please.

It is good that you can vent about this awful illness. Get it off your chest and make a promise to yourself that it won't rule your life. Huge strength of character can come from situations like yours. I wish you luck. Focus on all the things that you can do.

Best wishes

This is very powerful. Many writers express their disdain for some disease or disorder, but yours is one of the most well-expressed I've ever read. You use many palpable & clear descriptions of how it feels. Your intense disgust comes across strongly, yet it's also done with finesse as you bargain with the disorder & personify it as your constant companion. I remember many decades ago, a friend had his first seizure in his 20's, first realizing he was epileptic, & it was a big stigma to the rest of us, like he had some weird problem we couldn't understand. It forever changed the way we looked at him. Your poem shows how overwhelming this can be for the person with epilepsy (((HUGS))) Fondly, Margie
