To my Rose

To my Rose

A Poem by Daniel T.

Futility in thought, Impossibility in proceeding,
abides my dreams of acting with you.
I have admired you since the very beginning
and loved you in ways you couldn't value.

No matter my avidity,
no matter my prayers,
no matter my reverie,
I can do nothing but stare.

Not only do I gravely love you,
but my being aches from our accord.
Never would I wish you abscond from view,
and never would I want to leave your favor

But how our companionship drives a dagger in my heart
while jointly pulling it out.
I cannot love another; I could never start
for my heart, to you, is forever devout.

I look in the eyes of another seraph
and I know she is not mine to hold.
But looking at you tells me enough
to rekindle my heart's desire tenfold

But accursed fate keeps us apart;
providence is oft so cruel.
Aloof from the rose of my heart,
and the Songbird of my soul.
