My Merlot

My Merlot

A Poem by Lorraine Pearson

Metaphor at the bottom of a glass...

My Merlot
By: Lorraine Pearson
May 22, 2008

Drinking down a
Glass of merlot,
A bit too sharp from
My vineyard I know…
But I don't mind
Don't mind it- just now
Its rich, bold taste I
Welcome somehow-
As the flush of warmth
Spills into my cheeks
A touch from the inside
Is a touch… at least.
And I know somehow
Disappointments won't last
Like the bitter taste
Pouring forth
From this glass
A stem filled with Dom
Bubbling out
In a minute
Will taste all the sweeter
When merlot
Has been in it!

Always enjoyed that touch of warmth from the inside that only red wine delivers. Makes me want to crawl up on the sofa, close my eyes and listen to John Mayer play his guitar.

What a great poem! I really love this one...particularly your ending...very creative and clever metaphorical piece. Just a joy to read.

Now this is really different. But then I'm learning that one should expect the unexpected from you.
I did see something else though...
"A touch from the inside
Is a touch at least."

Subtle... but not unnoticed.

Oh, try Beringer Old Vine Zinfandel when you get a chance : >)

This was thrilling, Lorraiyne...very nice poem...

Going into my favorites yet again...Merlot is the best wine...and your poem brings a touch of vintage with it...
