Scene Three

INT. HOSPITAL-NIGHT

Sylar leans back at the security center desk while watching all the screens.  He has headsets in while relaxing.  Constantly, he moves his head at all the screens.

SYLAR

                           (sings)

           I need a hero

I’m holding out for a hero ‘til the end of the night

           He’s gotta be strong

           And he’s gotta be fast

And he’s gotta be fresh from the fight

           I need a hero

EMMA enters.  She walks over to Sylar while holding a lunchbox.  She waves to him and he stops singing putting a finger up.  Sylar pulls out a small white board and writes on it.  He lifts it up on it is written: I’ve been learning sign language.

EMMA

           Oh really?

SYLAR

Yes.  I’ve been lonely and living in a library.

EMMA

But why?  What about your home or staying with

           Your parents.

SYLAR

My parents are either dead or they’re dead to me.

He signals to her to wait for a second.  Quickly, he writes on the board before lifting it up.  It says: It’s too complicated to explain.

SYLAR

I abandoned my home to travel.

EMMA

           Why?

SYLAR

           Other things seemed so important.

EMMA

           I brought you food.

SYLAR

           Thank you.

EMMA

           I can read lips, too.

SYLAR

           Maybe I like sign language.

EMMA

You said your parents were dead.  How did they

           die?

SYLAR

           You don’t want to know.

Emma pulls a sandwich out of the bag handing it to Sylar.  He takes it but sits there staring at it.

EMMA

           It’s a hero.

Sylar stands there staring at it before he looks back at Emma who smiles at him.

EMMA

           Thanks again.

SYLAR

                           (hesitant)

           Thank you.

Emma grabs her lunchbox and exits leaving Sylar by himself.  He leans back holding onto the sandwich while scanning all the monitors.  He does not put the headsets back in.

CUT TO: PETER AND MOHINDER

INT. ROOM (HOSPITAL)

Mohinder stands by the door watching the hallway before he turns to face Peter who appears to be distracted by other thoughts.

MOHINDER

           What’s Sylar doing out there?

PETER

It’s a long story but he’s trying to change.

MOHINDER

A man like that doesn’t change.

PETER

Out of everybody here, I should be the most upset.

           He killed my brother.

MOHINDER

           That man killed my father!

PETER

What was it that you wanted to talk about?

MOHINDER

I’m not sure anymore.  The fact that Sylar is out there

           waiting"oh sorry, working"you can’t save him, Peter,

nobody can.  A man like that is too far gone.  He tricked

me once into believing he was somebody else.  People

           die everywhere he goes.

PETER

He’s changed.  I know he has.

MOHINDER

You’re too good of a person.

PETER

You may say that.  But you don’t know me.

CUT TO: CLAIRE AND TRACY

INT. DORM

Tracy shakes her head and stands up.  She starts to pace to and fro.  Claire has not moved from her bed.

TRACY

I hope nothing like what happened with Danko

           happens again.

CLAIRE

I’d like to spend some time with Gretchen.

TRACY

Sorry, I was going to leave anyway.

There’s a knock at the door.  Tracy opens it.  Gretchen stands there with Violet behind her.  Before they enter, Tracy exits.  Violet pushes Gretchen into the room before slamming the door shut behind her.  Claire stands up glaring at Violet who snickers before tearing out two pistols pointing them at Claire.

VIOLET

Hello Claire Bennet.  You’re much prettier in real

           life than on the tube.

She c***s both pistols while fingering the trigger.

CUT TO: SYLAR

Sylar sits there staring at only one of the screens.  Peter enters slowly walking towards him but Sylar never looks up.  It seems as if he’s too focused on the screen.  But the closer Peter comes to Sylar, he sees that Sylar is crying except he’s too quick to wipe away his tears.  Silence consumes the area.  Sylar looks up at Peter even though it looks as if he’s so upset; he’s in pain but nothing physical.

AMANDA

Where can I find a Peter Petrelli?

EMMA

           Are you hurt?

AMANDA

           No.

EMMA

           He’ll come back soon.

AMANDA

           Thanks.

CUT TO: MICAH AND MOLLY

INT. TRAIN

Molly leans her head against Micah’s shoulder almost falling asleep.

MICAH

What do you think people think when they see

           us?

MOLLY

           I don’t know.  And I don’t want to know.

MICAH

           Why?

MOLLY

I like being only a tracker.

MICAH

           Oh.

MOLLY

It’s not impressive.  But some days it feels as if

           the world is after me.

MICAH

           What do you mean?

MOLLY

                           (sits up, scans area)

I escaped from this strange place.  They kept ordering

for me to find Claire Bennet after what she showed

the world on TV.  I don’t know who exactly they were

but they’re strange.  And love comic books.

MICAH

           I like comic books.

MOLLY

Yeah, but you don’t try to create your life into one.

They’re all like ‘We’re Amazon Warriors’ ‘The

           Resistance’ ‘The Uprising’ ‘The Sisterhood’.

MICAH

           What do they look like?

MOLLY

           S***s!

                           (Micah giggles a little)

What’s so funny about that?  I’m telling you the

truth.  They look like girls trying to dress up as

           superheroes!

MICAH

           What about the men?

MOLLY

There aren’t any.  There’s a reason why they call

           it the Sisterhood.

CUT TO: NOAH AND LAUREN

INT. CAFÉ

Noah stands up.

NOAH

           I can’t wait anymore.

LAUREN

Claire will be mad at you.

NOAH

           Doesn’t matter.

He turns to leave when Tracy enters.

NOAH

           What took you so long?

TRACY

I was shocked and had to hear her story a few

times.  But she’s fine.  She’s hanging out with

           her two friends.

NOAH

           She has more friends now?

TRACY

They seemed nice although the one girl had an

interesting appearance to say the least.  She wore

some white leather contraption.  Had purple hair and

           odd looking sunglasses.

                           (pauses)

           Are they still selling coffee?

NOAH

Yes.  What did she tell you?

LAUREN

No.  Wait.  The girl with Claire.  The one with the

sunglasses.  Did she call herself Violet or Violet Canary?

TRACY

I didn’t talk to her friends.

LAUREN

But I need to…Noah, where are the Primatech files.

It’s probably nothing.  But there’s a girl named Dinah

Laurel who’s extremely unstable.  She calls herself

Violet or Violet Canary because of some superhero.

           We should check the files.

NOAH

It’ll be too late.  I’m going to find Claire.  You two stay

           here.

LAUREN

But I at least know about Dinah.  I should go.

NOAH

           We’ll go.

CUT TO: CLAIRE AND VIOLET

Violet stalks around Gretchen to come face to face with Claire who hides all emotion.

CLAIRE

           Go ahead.  Shoot me.

VIOLET

                           (laughs)

I’d love to but these aren’t real guns.  They’re water

           guns.

CLAIRE

           Who are you?

VIOLET

Do you want my real name or my fake name?

GRETCHEN

                           (walks up to Claire)

           How about both?

VIOLET

I’m Violet Canary but my fake name is Dinah Laurel.

CLAIRE

           What do you even want?

VIOLET

           Corporation.

CLAIRE

           I don’t follow.

VIOLET

My mom is in the hospital and I think only you

           can save her.

CLAIRE

           Dinah…

VIOLET

           My name is VIOLET Canary!

When she screams, the room shakes a little bit Gretchen and Claire pay no notice of it.

CLAIRE

           Violet, I’m afraid there’s nothing I can do.  I can’t heal

           others only myself.

VIOLET

Don’t play me stupid.  I’m no fool.  For a fact, I know

that your blood can heal others.

CLAIRE

           Who are you?

GRETCHEN

It can’t do that.  Her blood.  That’s impossible.

VIOLET

           I can show you.

CLAIRE

           Who are you?

VIOLET

           Violet Canary.

GRETCHEN

           More like Violent Canary.

CLAIRE

           We already knew that.

VIOLET

(presses on of the pistols against Claire’s head)

If I pull this trigger and blow your brains out.

                           (pauses)

           You won’t heal.  Not ever.

CLAIRE

You told me those guns are fake.

VIOLET

What?  You don’t think I can lie?

GRETCHEN

We just want to know how you know all of this stuff

           about Claire.

VIOLET

           Idgie told me.

CLAIRE

I don’t know who that is.

VIOLET

           None of your beeswax!

CLAIRE

What is your mom dying of?

VIOLET

Just come with me to New York City!

CLAIRE

           I’m not afraid of you.

VIOLET

           But I’m CRAZY!

CLAIRE

           Then pull the trigger.

VIOLET

           I don’t want to.

CLAIRE

We’re both unarmed.  It’d be rude if you shot me.  At

least give a gun to Gretchen.

VIOLET

No, but she can have a bullet.

Violet aims her other gun at Gretchen pulling the trigger.  A bullet hits her leg.  There’s no sound though.  The gun goes off but it’s silent.  Gretchen falls over screaming, but still there’s no sound.  Silence consumes the area around her.  Violet looks up at Claire as her hair slowly changes to black while her clothes change from white to a dark blue.  Claire gawks at her.

VIOLET

                           (extremely upset)

           Do N-NOT make me…ANGRY!  See…I-I…I don’t FEEL guilt.

           I-I don’t…CARE ABOUT THE WORLD!

The shaking of the room whenever she screams grows a tad bit more violent.

CLAIRE

           What about your mom?

VIOLET

           I love her.

CLAIRE

I can’t help you.  You hurt my friend.

Claire kneels down beside Gretchen pressing her hand against the wound.  But when Claire goes to speak only her lips move.  There’s no sound.  Violet kicks Claire in the face knocking her away from Gretchen.

VIOLET

NO!  You don’t get a phone call, Claire!

Claire stands up.  She backs away toward her window punching it.  Glass shatters and she starts to bleed a little before finally her wounds heal.

CLAIRE

           Go ahead.  Fight me.

VIOLET

           I’m not afraid of you.

CLAIRE

I’m almost indestructible.  What about you?

Noah and Lauren enter.  Noah kicks down the door and the two run in armed with guns.  But Violet swiftly turns to face them.  She fires both guns, which go off silent.  Although, she misses Noah except one bullet grazes Lauren’s arm.  Violet grows even angrier about this.  She lunches forward leaping into the air kicking Noah in the chest knocking him out of the room before she whirls around kicking Lauren in the face, which knocks her unconscious.

VIOLET

No!  No!  No!  No!  NO!  NO!  NO!

She stands there screeching.  Everybody holds onto their ears while the walls shake and the floor tremble.  Violet stomps toward Claire throwing quite the temper tantrum.  She’s about to blow Claire’s brains out with her gun when Noah manages to shoot at her but misses.  Again, she whips around extremely swift for not having super speed.  Violet whack her gun across the side of Noah’s head also knocking him unconscious.  He falls over at her feet and she stands there staring at him.  Still she is screaming and kicks Noah a few times before she faces Claire aiming both weapons at her again.

VIOLET

I don’t like it when people crash my parties.

CLAIRE

           You’re absolutely mad.

VIOLET

Well yeah.  That’s what happens when you’re

TORTURED as a child by a woman like THAT!

CLAIRE

If I come to help you.  Will you stop hurting every-

body and let me come back?

VIOLET

Well yeah.  All I wanted was your corporation.

CLAIRE

           Cooperation.

VIOLET

Why are you talking about office buildings?

CLAIRE

Well you have it.  I’ll do what you want as long

           as you stop hurting everybody.

VIOLET

Oh yay!  It’s you and me off to save the world!

                           (pauses)

Just know.  If I don’t like what you’re up to I

will kill somebody.  It comes with being unstable.

                           (pauses)

Let’s go.  This is going to be fun.  I don’t make

           friends often.

Violet steps to the side allowing Claire to walk out first.  The whole room is silent.  She pulls through the room looking at Gretchen, Noah and Lauren.  Soon she exits with Violet close behind  She slams the door shut, snickering.
