Here?

Here?

A Poem by Laura Kate

Why don't you see me
I'm here
but you don't look

Why don't you see me
instead of the person
you want me to be

Why don't you see me
why pretend
I'm someone else?

Why don't you see me
I'm here
aren't I?

Sadly that is what happens. Some people want to change us into their ideal. Years ago I met a man like that. There was so much he wanted to change, I figured he didn't like me, so I left him. We should be loved for our imperfections as well as our attributes. Nicely penned and relatable.

Laura, I once heard women marry men hoping to change them, and men marry women hoping they’ll never change. An over-generalization for sure. Then, we have what you’ve written about. Maybe a mix of the above, or maybe a person (the narrator) who deserves better, unconditional love perhaps.

the version that is real is what is best...so sad that some can't see that...
this reminds me of how two people are first attracted to each other---why? because of who they are now...so why in time does one try to change the other into what that person wants to see.

Makes no sense to do that.

It's very true, and sad. Too sad that so many 'amend' themselves to fit.
Thank you
