Roses an Sulfur

Roses an Sulfur

A Poem by Susan M. Fenn

Roses, you bathed in
And smelled of each day
As unique as the petal in a field of ambition
Whenever your near, the scent drifts my way

Sulfur he says is when you're upset
It will bowl you over
Raise up the dead

Your temper in life, was very much great
Yet your love and your heart,
Outweighed any hate
You knew more than you should

I expect you still do
And even though you can't speak
You're words still get through

You protect those you love
With a warning of light
I've often wondered what you would have been like in life

The stories I've heard
The laughter's brought me to tears
And please don't worry
Your poker secret is safe

The little boy you taught
Won't give you away
Your daughter, I've been told,
Still doubts to this day

But, I know better.
I know you were great
Thank you for the time
Spent writing with me

The roses were bought
In your memory
The sulfur is one
I hope never to smell
Though I'm sure someday..
You'll let me know how you feel

What we spoke of that
I promise not to tell
I trust you and your wisdom
Over my fears
And until the day comes
Maggie, I'm glad that you're near
