The Tears I Shed

The Tears I Shed

A Poem by BeautyFromTheEarth93
"

I wrote this after I went to therapy today. I talked to my therapist about Bernadette, the girl who died, and I started crying again.

"

The tears I shed,

Cannot match the pain,

Cannot equal the thoughts,

That rush through your head.

Who am I?,

Just a 15-year old girl,

We kids are supposed to live,

Yet, a beautiful child had to die.

They say that only the good die young,

But she, the best of them all,

Did not deserve this,

The breath is caught in my lungs.

Not knowing her character,

Makes these tears strange,

But it must be my heart,

That wishes I knew her.

So sleep, my beautiful,

Sleep in peace,

Rest your sweet head,

And know that heaven is wonderful.

Do not worry about us,

We'll make it somehow,

Just know that we will never forget,

That sweet face we all used to trust.

Goodnight, Bernadette,

Live your life in heaven,

Just know that things are better,

Since you and God met.

This is beautiful Gabby. I feel you pain as you well know and I really think you are channeling your energy into something positive. We all miss her terribly and I think she would really appreciate your words. You ever need to talk you know I am here for you. I love you girlie and that will never change. I love you like my sister and you pain is mine. Love you lots!!!

To grieve for this girl you hardly knew shows your reverence for life and its frailty. A place like St. Jude's Children Hospital is filled with children fighting for their lives, for many of them, it is a losing battle...it must be very hard to work in such a place and daily watch children die...so WHY do the Drs. who work there do it do you think? Because they are able to save some of them, that's why. They are able to give hope where a death sentence was handed down and fight for young lives on the line. If you wish to do something for this girl, perhaps you could raise awareness of her condition publicly and help raise money for those still alive suffering from the same affliction. She is now beyond all help or harm but there are others...there are always others and life is too short to focus on the dead when the living are in such need. The great sage Confucius once said, " It is better to light a single candle than to sit alone and curse the darkness." I think you should use this grief, form it into a determination to make a difference in your own life and the lives of others. This is a heart touching poem, lovely written.

This is the second piece of writing which you have written for Bernadette, this itself proves that she was special to you and her memories will always remain in your heart...

I agree with the comments of my good friend Samuel Dickens, a well written poem, a pleasure to read your poetry.

By writing about her, you show great honor for young Bernadette and show the rest of us what a loving, caring soul you are.
