Oh What A Moment

Oh What A Moment

A Poem by Lydia Shutter
"

Nothing like seeing the world through a child's eyes!

"
"young girl on the beach" artwork by i. davidi

You drink in the sun
in small lingering sips
munch on dreams
translucent as the lazuline sea
clouds drift to distant realms
you tell me stories
intricate details
born in the sand castle
of your imagination
right now I believe
you might know more
about the world
than I do
or ever will
you slow your pace to mine
we walk
oh what a moment

I kiss your rosy cheek

you taste of summer

Artwork and poetry is amazing. I like the description in the poem. I take my Grand boys to the beach as often as possible. Good for kids to know freedom and happiness of a open beach and a Summer day. A perfect ending to the excellent poetry.

Tender, and sweet, just you and this girl, on a regular day, on the beach, you seeing through her eyes, and she through yours, each on a almost transient way, but connected...

"born in the sand castle
of your imagination"

What a beautiful way to imagine her thoughts... you have a wonderful heartwarming heart Lydi :)
You can say that through your words, you write with your soul.

Just beautiful.

You have captured the world of wonder and magic through this child's eyes when they frolic and enjoy all the moments in the summer season especially when they go to the beach where their curiosity is grand...Splendid poem...:)

Your poem is a beautiful ode to childhood, Lydi. And the presentation is wonderful, too. Thank you for gifting us with this poem - it makes getting up on a Monday morning much more pleasant.

...very sweet, indeed! Lydi, this reminds me of a little boy I used to have in my daycare. He'll be starting Kindergarten soon, and my heart is all a flutter for missing him.

This truly touched me...

Oh the joy of walking beside a child you love and admire...you capture it all so endearingly, my friend. They are wonderful company..aren't they. ..so full of energy and innocence. This line "right now I believe you might know more about the world than I do" is just GREAT. Wisdom of the sages! That ending is so beautiful..so vivid, that one line "you taste of summer" sums up everything a child is. Oh what a moment indeed, and what a capture! A delight to read.

This is a very sweet poem. It reminds me of my daughter when she was younger... she was so full of summer and laughter and dancing and chasing lighting bugs that it invigorated me to write about it. Now all she does is complain about the heat, her annoying brother, and the bugs! Haha! How quickly children change! Thank you for writing this poem... it brought me back to those wonderful summers!
