I Sway

I Sway

A Poem by Lydia Shutter
"

Sing the blues....I will sway to the music

I listen to you sing the blues

the words hold me

          a lyrical feel

    a beautiful pain

                    a deliciously bittersweet taste

yes, the words are all on a path

I have not quite traveled

and yet my feet are familiar

                    with the bumpy road

my fingers have thumbed through

every piece of art in the portfolio

and my psyche swears

it remembers

still

from this distance

I listen to you sing the blues

and I'm able to sway to the melody

Oh, I just love this!! The painting you have set the tone with is perfect as I can just hear her singing the words you have penned to the sound of a soulful sax, or a slow playin' piano! Swaying to the melody as one who is familiar to the territory brings your piece so alive!
I love to sing, and I "dabble" here and there but of all the sounds I seem to end up with is "the blues".....gotta just love them as I love your poem!

Intriguing the way life's experiences parallel the singer's words !

Deeply soulful, poetic literal music at its best !

A beautiful tribute to the blues, Lydi. So many of us are all too familiar with the sources and yet, its bittersweet sound still stirs deep emotions within us. Another winner, Lydi!

Oh..to be lost inside of a melody...you capture it all so beautifully, my friend. Feeling the depth of emotions through a songster's voice has a magic and resonance of its own. You've got me swaying too. An absolutely captivating write here...Lydi. Loved it.

Such beauty in your poetic words, Madame Lydi...I Love that movie too...I also love how your poem falls off the page and into my eyes...really good stuff. I also Love the Josephine Baker story, as well. Nicely penned.

Lydi, this is gorgeous and filled with desire to know the pain coming from these chords and vocals. When someone sings the blues with absolute feeling, we know in our hearts that they have felt this and we feel for them. Music does that and so does your poem.

On a lighter note, I keep a guitar in my office and customers always, when they see it, ask me if I play for my employees. My standard answer is always, no, but I play the blues every payday. I know, shut up Jack. :)
