the moon cries

the moon cries

A Poem by Lydia Shutter
"

memories envelop me at times..how i miss them

"

artwork by Steve Zazenski of allthatart on etsy.com

the immense quiet of morning

is interrupted only by the house creaking

through the white space of

not quite asleep

not quite awake

snippets of memory

from what seems like another lifetime

begin to play

such daredevils they are

balancing on the tightrope of emotion

my mind jumps from one place to another

the newspaper is delivered

the unmowed grass is high

what’s for dinner?

tease-taunt

he started it-no she did

tag you’re it

watch me run faster than the butterflies

my sandcastle is taller than yours

soon the whole day has vanished

eaten by those memories

and in the immense quiet of a starry night

the moon cries

What an incredible piece of writing, Lydi....the whole poem flashed past me like those snapshots of memories...evoking an achingly beautiful, bittersweet wistfulness. it is often in the 'immense quiet' of mornings and starry nights that we find ourselves soaked in fond memories...and you capture the inexpressible like a dream, my friend. just loved this one.

I love how you have written this one Lydi with your words scattered about and slip sliding, just like those memories that dart in and out of our minds in those quiet moments. Love this one and you know 'watch me run faster than the butterflies' got to me. Brava!

So beautiful written. It reminded me of my brother, lost to cancer 5 years ago. with the age difference my memories are mainly from when I was quite young. Glimpses here and there of looking up to him from my young eyes.
Many blessings to you, Lydi.

A lovely but very sad poem, Lydi. My wish for you is that tonight you sleep well in the arms of the man who loves you as you love him. and all your memories tomorrow are happy ones.

The empty nest can be a stark place filled with memories. Your poem captured the love and the longing that remains in place. In a blink of an eye they are gone.

dear Lydi.... "watch me run faster than the butterflies" ... that would be
my granddaughter Maddie. "my sandcastle is taller than yours"...
that would be my grandson Ethan. But at the end of the day...
the Moon and I cry... time is twinkling like stars. Your poetry
soothes my heart. truly... Pat

Amazing when a piece...a work of art...can make a certain kinda guy (screamin' at a football game just minutes before) stop and take notice, then make little girlie noises such "awwww..." and use words like 'gorgeous'...
Lydi, this poem is brilliant---BRILLIANT! ...beautiful and gorgeous, visually-stunning inside the mind's acoustics and on the canvas of the heart...other than that I don't know what to say,

'cept Thanks for writing and sharing ...a favorite to stash

I have never tried to do it,not sure I know how I don`t have a lot of exp on my computer yet
it has to be hard...when they grow up and grow out on their own...the house gets really quiet...we even miss the fights...

well done...

"my sandcastle is taller than yours"

great line..but now they have grown up...and the sandcastles have either been washed away by the waves of life..or have grown even taller.

Younger days seemed to fly by, but these days filled with memories go even faster. Tender, vivid moments painted with your words, Lydi; I like the form you present this in, too.

Such a beautiful worded poem Lydia on the true value of memories and how they revisit us. You painted a vivid and admirable picture with your words, one of which I admired greatly. Another perfect piece you have conceived... thank you for sharing it.
