Tunes So Familiar

Tunes So Familiar

A Poem by Lydia Shutter
"

Just a bit of reflection

"

It’s true you know
time hungrily ate my youth
devoured the buffet of opportunity
in a few gluttonous gulps
savoring each scrumptious morsel
           and now
in a frenzy of recollection
I pay time’s padded bill
by allowing iterations of semi victories
and tenuous triumphs
to join hands
with doubtful defeats
they hum tunes so familiar
lulling me into sweet reverie
oh, the fantasia of it all!
what’s a girl to do?
Nothing but raise a glass
to the pluperfect past tense
and to what promises to be a sweet future
                     L’chaim!

I agree with the logic of the poem. Our youth stole by time leave us with a drink and new promises to live by. Thank you kind friend for the amazing poetry.

This was really different and it made me think. Time does eat away at us, but do we eat away at it? I really enjoyed this poem today. It felt sad and then uplifting. It was very good.

Thank you so much for your review. Lydi**
Damn that "gluttonous time"... only good thing about it is, as it ate, it allowed you to enjoy those sweet tunes and turn them into metaphors and images sparkling with poetry.. so here's a line you may remember from a yesterday movie, (curt raising his glass to Ms Lydi);Rick turns and says, " Here's looking at you, kid"... or as you put it, L'chaim!!

And Lydi, no matter what anyone says, no what your body says... YOU STILL GOT IT, JOISEY GIRL!!!

~~redzone (and yes it's a nice poem)

"Oh, the fantasia of it all!" Made me smile, this piece that celebrates the past and embraces whatever comes next. My glass is raised to you, Lydi! *clink* :)

"the pluperfect past tense"
absolutely love that...speaking of metaphors...you come up with some damn good ones.
we reflect on life, the victories, the defeats...and know we have had quite the experience, and realize there is more to come.

so i raise my glass to you and this poem.
