Words on a Page

A Poem by Lydia Shutter

the words we read leave an impact on us

Y
ou generously gave me
words on a page
     simple words
dancing on the lunatic fringe
Adverbs lustily following
action verbs
Adjectives pushing
nouns deeply into the abyss
of pronouns
           names without a face-
yet totally recognizable

Your ink on the page
behaving so much like
small pulsing jolts
of blue lightning
serving to modify parts of me
that for the first time
were miraculously
not misplaced

Others have given me
candles, wine and song
but you, you gave me
words on a page
the most generous gift of all

three very distinct flavors in this delicious write... oooooooh yes!!!! the obvious "grammer" layer which is creatively clever and brilliant... Then the heated use of those cleverly used "tools" on the page, then the last layer is the message of sweet words written for others to enjoy.... this has to be one of my all time favorite pieces I have read on here so far..... by a mile... it has thought-provoking personification and metaphors, it has sensual, seductive, teasing heat, and it has sweet romance and deep meaning... well-rounded STUNNING write... I am in awe!!

Lydia,

The generosity of your gift overwhelms me. When words of yours find my eyes I am wrapped in a tender loving care.

Al

This poem is very nice. It is simple, but the last few lines really make the simple complex. They were great.

I'm not an avid fan of the show "The Bachelor" or "The Bachelorette," but I did happen to watch the episode years ago with Trista and Ryan, wherein he wrote her a poem. At that very moment, I thought he was THE one; and as it turns out, he was. They are the only couple that have remained together, have been together for years, and they have two children. Perhaps being a woman and poet makes me feel the same, but I think a poem is one of the greatest, most heartfelt gifts that you can ever receive. Your poem embodies this so well. Great work!

Beautiful, beautiful poem! I love its integrity and absolutely love your choice of words - they really do send "small pulsing jolts" up my spine! This has now become one of my favourite poems.

Nope. thanks for the visit. Lydi**
I read this and enjoyed the words, then I re-read it and think I detected a hidden message. It seemed as though it was an anticipated review of any poem that you are reading on this site. If I am wrong, I apologise - if I'm correct I compliment you on a skilful subliminal message., as well as a beautiful poem.
