stay a while

stay a while

A Poem by Lydia Shutter

artwork by marie laurencin

i ponder
how improbable
the dimensions of your hug are

how is it possible?
your arms are the shortest distance
between love and caring
yet are long enough to span my world
encompassing me in a way
nothing before ever has
and surely nothing ever will in the future

indeed, your hug is a country
yes that is what it is
a universe i reach without a compass
yet t'is there I am quite lost
in a glorious way

as the ebony velvet of night
takes off its slippers
i smile
knowing it is here
i wish to stay a while

When held in the arms of one who you care for and you can feel these same feeling returned, without words, without facial expressios, just knowing that this is a place that you are truly wanted and where you want to be, it can be its own country or universe. For once in that loving embrace nothing else exists except that moment which you hope lasts an enternity. Very beautiful Lydi.

This one seems like a dream one has of a guy somewhere, sort of a crush on someone who is so near yet so far. Nice one as usual

Thank you very much, Cassie. Lydi**
dear Lydi, this is the most endearing
poem as though you enter the beauty of
night with overtures of moonbeams and
intimate embraces... knowing that this
where you want to be. truly, Pat

it's best when we get there without maps, without the compass...when the direction of love finds us...we just have to let ourselves wander into it, obligingly...and take our slippers off together.

Every single word is placed in its perfect place. This piece is positively dreamy. The emotions reach the reader in a glorious way, Your pen has encompassed a caring hug as nothing before ever has
