the one i am

the one i am

A Poem by Lydia Shutter

artwork by kim starr

take me to the ocean
let me paddle through the waves
discovering all things new and different
let me watch as the low tide
crawls towards my toes
teasing me
opening the door to my soul
and then accepting me
not for the woman i should be
but the one i truly am

and the one you are, is one of my favorite people and poets Lydi.... as I read, I could feel the sand between my toes and the coolness of the waves and I remember just how "nice" your poetry is and the feelings it radiates....

did I tell you it was a "nice" poem??!!!

and I have missed reading your poetry Lydi....

I want to go too dear Lydia. I need a year near the sea. I would lay in the water and never complain. Thank you dear friend for sharing the wonderful poetry.

You are right dear Lydia and you are welcome.
There is something so powerful and calming about the situation ocean. Sitting on the shore allowing the water to tickle your toes and feeling comfortable with who you are and not what others want you to be.

There are lines in here that we all should listen to. Accept ourselves for who we are and not what others think we should be. I love the imagery of the ocean to get this idea across.

There is something so liberating about the vast expanse of ocean and paddling like children again in the waves. Be yourself Lydi** and be proud of who you are. Who is to say who you should be? Kim Starr artwork is wonderful. Pleased to see a post from you again. Take care.

Thank you both.....you are so kind!
As always you turn poetry to gentle but honest reality, Lydi. Takes a courageous woman to allow herself to be seen in an instant. But then, perhaps the tide is washing life's veneer from her. Your writing breathes heart, ' .. . let me paddle through the waves - discovering all things new and different .. '

I don't think there should be a "should" be...just an "is"---
Who we are is what we are...
powerfully short punch here, Lydi.
And yes, I have posted some old ones...but they seemed pertinent today...or maybe I ran out of ideas?
