A Rush of Blood

A Rush of Blood

A Poem by Lykeios
"

One of my darker free-form/prose poems. Please review it if you have a minute.

"
The rush of blood
through dilated veins
The pounding rhythm
of unbridled heart
The scarlet flush
upon one's cheeks
A fight for life on bloodied field:
man's greatest scourge
of his sins begat
Strangled cries
of the wounded and dying
Men in agony
twisted
lie on the ground
Mud
gore
and corpses
these surround
Hallmarks all
of battle's toll
Eris,
bringer of strife,
stands laughing at the side
the chaos around
her most loved effect
A rush of blood
from out the veins
The pulsing arrhythmia
of slowing heart
A scarlet stain
upon one's skin
Hallmarks all
of Man's fatal flaws

vivid and sad. War is hell. Read it a few times and I am still reading "her most loved effect" as "her most beloved effect." Can't help it! No idea why. :)
