Love’s pain gathers in a pool on my chest

I heave against its weight

Struggling to control my anguish

 

Movements too slow to perceive

Strangle the cries emanating from deep within my soul

Sounds of agony I wish no one to hear

 

Pleading, bargaining within my mind

Forcing thoughts to float

Encompassed in a sea of sorrow

Giving into the undertow

 

I am drowning
