Boyish Dreams

Boyish Dreams

A Poem by Peter Pappas
"

A childhood lost

"

I lived in panting excess,
Fleeing the pained remembrance
Of the sharp and shiny things
That cleaved my heaving heart.

My sins, conceived in solitude,
Like vermin in a warm, damp sack,
Ruined my boyish dreams;
I won’t be getting them back.
