Poets & Singers

A Poem by MachinaWriter
"

A poem about creative minds seeking life in the world...

"

The packed, crammed, stacked

buildings and rooftops

sprawl before me

in the early moments of dusk.

A husk of a city,

peeled and falling apart,

sparse, even when close,

distant in the heart

of it all,

colder still as night falls.

Moonlight scrambles

across roofs of tin and clay

to places where the sinful pray,

laying in their beds

like vampires,

starving for blood

to lift them higher

than the burning fires,

because it comes from the heart,

something they all lack.

Amidst these shadows,

the walking dead,

mournful

crying,

dying inside instead,

      there are the stargazers.

Seeking

wishing, dreaming

They are the raisers

of hope.

Unable to revoke

the endless dreams.

Amidst a world of ghosts

where most seem

to drift,

their hearts still beat.

They are the roof walkers,

stalkers of stars and moons.

I can hear one now,

playing a soulful tune

a violin

crying of its sin,

and I begin to wonder…

what keeps us from the others,

who walk below and under,

dying like fading thunder,

barely a rumble

where we leap, and tumble

creative lightning

across these rooftops,

defying the frightening

in a nonstop quest

a fulfillment of this thing

nestled in our chest,

called the soul.

And though to those,

who walk the ground

we may look like shadows

bounding without a sound,

across rooftops high and low

we are far more solid

than they will ever know.

We are lovers of passion,

they live lifes ashen,

barren and soulless,

though they don’t even know this.

We are poets and singers

while they reach their hands

with starving fingers

for what they don’t understand

but wish they had.

We are the violin and pen,

scratching and strumming

to the drumming of our hearts,

singing out our sins.

While they strive

to even feel alive,

their skin cold,

wishing to feel bold,

wandering alone,

in a city crowded, packed,

searching like vampires,

for that life they lack.

Staring up, with a glance,

as we lightly leap,

sing, write, dance.

Seeking answers,

to questions they don’t know.

Seeking, wishing, waiting,

for dawn to break the shadows…

There are moments of majesty in your descriptive skills, Machina and they stand out as a sort of raw eloquence that makes your work distinct. I wish the word "Cuz" had not been used because it breaks into the purity of the language, but that's just me. An outstanding work that accomplishes absolutely everything it was created and designed to do. Beyond that, a marvelous read.

Not a problem, sir! Time for me to crash out!
The life of the writers, poets, songwriters. and all the "roof walkers" seem to rise above, reaching for the moon and stars or just the universe itself to which we dare to try and grasp. Great imagery, content and beautiful flow of lines.
"Staring up, with a glance,
as we lightly leap,
sing, write, dance.
Seeking answers,
to questions they don’t know." I, for one, am glad I look beyond the surface of life into it's distant shadows.

Good, this was for all the people of creative mindsets. We truly do leap above the rooftops.
Once again, you've written something so different from anything I've ever read before. It amazes me, what a wide range of poetry you can write, and with such elegance, style, and beauty. You did a wonderful job with this, it painted a picture and had a lovely message; I enjoyed reading it, as always. x
