Divisions

Divisions

A Poem by Madeline

There's a tear in my eye but you can't see it
You hide behind the buffer between us
A wall of glass which distorts our view
You can't see me and I can't see you
Our facades shine through clear and bright
But how we really feel we hold tight
Half-truths and generalities are all we know
Afraid of honesty we can't seem to let go
Sometimes I consider shattering the wall
Telling you the truth telling you all
But I'll never have the courage to really talk to you
All it will lead to is emptiness when I'm through
So it's probably best we keep it this way
On our own sides of the partition we should stay
For when neither can look the other in the eye
It's better to leave it and better to lie.
