Who I am

Who I am

A Poem by Malyaa
"

One of the few poems that I wrote when I was probably 12 and saved because it was actually typed for a poem contest

"

HEY!

People wonder that I am

Whether I’m white, mixed, or black

Well I tell them that I am a proud African American girl

That has seen people my colors suffer before I was even born.

I’ve seen and heard that people my color had to sit in the back and only there

But when they stood up for them

They were arrested like my sister Rosa Parks

Or

Like my brother Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. stand walk with his people for freedom

And die for that freedom and still see it continue.

Me! I know who I am,

I am proud African American that saw what people my color went through and stand up for it.

If we forget, we shall perish,

But if we remember this every day, every hour, every minute, and every second

We shall unite and come together as one.

 Power to the people!
