To A Special Someone

To A Special Someone

A Poem by Emily Bivens

To A Special Someone
You probably aren't aware,
Of what I'm about to tell you.
But if you are,
I wish I knew if you feel the same.
My heart skips a beat whenever you're near.
I get butterflies in my stomach when someone says your name.
Constantly, I think of you,
And hope that you are happy
I cry to myself when no one's around. I do this because,
The day we met you stole a part of me which you still possess.
I love you. I miss you. And I will till the end.
I don't know if you and I are meant for each other,
But I can honestly say that you will always have a piece of my heart.
And that is because you will always be my close friend and my first love.
Sincerely,
A loving friend

Our first love is forever imprinted on our heart, and time seems to strengthen this connection. That’s what I read here, and much more.

The narrator seems content, not regretting the past or unsatisfied with the present, but yearns for that connection. Maybe it’s a desire to feel that rush again, the first time we felt that tender heart palpitation and kiss. And, that’s something we don’t often talk about... because it’s a secret we hold close (maybe why this is addressed to “a special someone” - not a named person.

A touching poem that conveys love, sincerity and that human longing for connection. A very good piece, Emily.
