Panic

Panic

A Poem by Mamalou
"

I have been suffering from panic attacks lately - apparently I suffer from anxiety. This poem outlines a situation I experienced recently trying to go into my workplace.

"
I can do this, I can do this,I can do this
I play it out in my head
What will happen
I open the door
and walk inside
I smile and talk
get a few hugs
and then I leave
feeling joyful
I can do this, I can do this, I can do this
But in actuality
I peak inside
and terror fills me
heart thumping hard
breath quick and short
tears in my eyes
I back away
I can't do this, I can't do this, I can't do this.
I really need to calm down
A deep breathe in
and exhale strongly
A deep breathe in
and exhale strongly
Where are my pills
please make it stop
When will I be able to do this?

Your poem captures the feeling of anxiety and fear that can be so overwhelming in social situations. I can sense the tension and the struggle that you are experiencing, and I want to encourage you to keep pushing forward. It's okay to feel scared and uncertain, but remember that you are strong and capable of overcoming your fears. Take deep breaths, focus on the present moment, and remind yourself that you can do this. It may take time and practice, but with patience and perseverance, you can learn to manage your anxiety and feel more comfortable in social situations. Don't give up, keep trying, and know that you are not alone.

I know that chant far too well… excellent poem. I hope it gets easier soon.

Thank you!
The brief, spare, but evocative lines represent the feeling of high anxiety well. I hope you find the medication and treatment you need soon.
