the starfish story

One day, a man was walking down a beach. A beach with thousands of starfish scattered as far as he could see. A ways down the beach the man noticed a boy. the boy repeatedly bent down, scooped up a starfish, and threw it into the ocean. The man walked to to the boy and said " what are you doing, boy? there is no way you could get all the starfish back into the ocean. What would it matter if you only got a few into the water?" the boy looked up at him and without saying a word he bent down grabbed a starfish that was at his feet and threw it into the shallows of the ocean. " it mattered to that one" he said. the man was stunned. he looked out to the water and noticed that the starfish the boy threw was slowly making its way out to sea.
