Truth or lie

Truth or lie

A Poem by Manuel Samo

I could have told a lie,

But I chose the truth instead;

Thinking they sought it in all cases.

Conversely, my surmise was wrong.

They found me disgusting

And glanced askance at me.

Then later,

With a more crucial and delicate matter at hand

I made a rather sage decision

Or so I thought

I picked the lie

However, they noticed somehow.

They called me a liar,

Expressed their disappointment

And the obvious, they parted ways.

Nice poem, Manuel. In fifteen lines you get to the bottom of an aspect of human nature which concerns each and every one of us at some time. I am very glad to have read this piece, it's recounting of a person's decisions hides quite deep philosophical questions about self and society.
It is such a natural write, along with the subtle tongue-in-cheek humour, that it only adds to the overall quality, for me.
An excellent poem, in fact, no lie.
