Black Sludge Society

Black Sludge Society

A Poem by Slug

Under a New York City street

the sewers overflow

a pipe bursts under pressure
and explodes

Black Sludge
spatters, onto a thousand human bodies
now we watch it
saturate their pores

seep into their veins

Black Sludge

blurps into the brain

satiates their thoughts

poisoning their heads

Black Sludge
is not the expensive fuel of the American Industrial Machine

That fuels Religious institutions

Fuels Capitalist greed

Fuels our car of the year

and is in all our drinks

No,

Black Sludge is
the residual s**t of society

we thirst for it

and choke as it clogs our throats

but we never,
spit it out

See,

as long as we have industrial societies

we will have toxic waste

collecting
under our city streets

Ah, the perceptual view of scientific advancement, that eventually the toxicity will seep into our resources and vanish along with them.
