fitful sleepings part one

fitful sleepings part one

A Poem by Marcus Mckenzie

i could see myself  'leaving las vegas'
as the marquee lights on the strip
burst and fizzled in my wake
thinking to myself that maybe if i looked back
the random neon flickerings of the bulbs which remained
would be blinking out through the sparkshowerstatic;
lust-bright dots and dashes cryptically defining
the emergence of some manic future state....
thinking (again, to myself)
maybe it's too late
maybe 'maybe' is just one more mistake;
another misspelled word on a page
in a book about do-it-yourself-destruction....
