Death by Toys

Death by Toys

A Poem by Margaret Marie Hubbard

God knows how I love my boys,
he also knows I loathe their toys.
Little legos and wooden trains,
always causing trips and sprains.
I grab a bag and silently creep,
throwing sh*t out while they sleep.
Careful placement a siren blares,
I slowly back out tripping on chairs.
Stealth mode isn't stealth at all,
as I pull ninja moves but somehow fall.
The littlest rises up with a smile,
"Mommy, is that my crocodile?"
Of course I cower and hand it over,
Through clumsiness I've blown my cover.
Feeling like the Grinch with the whos,
I dump the bag out and tend to the bruise.
I guess I just won't get my way,
those toys will be my death one day!

hahaha brilliant!!! the stealth tactics that fail! getting rumbled by the far too observant kids - you're not getting them toys!! not until they're collecting dust in an attic in many years to come!! great humour! couplets perfect choice for it! nice, nice, nice!!!

Hahaha. I think every parent can relate to this! I love the humor, the playful, easy rhyme, the tone, the subject. And stepping on a lego in the dead of night, has to be one of the most painful experiences. LOL This was fun to read. :)

Regards,

E

don't know how I can review this piece, in light of how serious my work always is..........................

I think it's something genetic in boys.... I'd tell my son to clean up his room, four hours later I'd check on him and find he's been playing with all the toys he forgot about and -hard to believe- has made the room even MORE cluttered than before... genetics I tell you.

Fun stuff, and that's how you gotta look at it.

This is fun, Margaret, and brought a smile and memories of my daughter's childhood. Any reason to reminisce about my days with her is good enough for me! Well done!

This is completely funny but so true. Dodging toys can be a death drape. Ever step on a skateboard in the dark? I am seriously telling you that is not one you want to step on in the dark.
