Going to "Camp"

Going to "Camp"

A Poem by Honey
"

dang, why do all of our english books have fires in them!?

"

This room is too dark, and the air is thick

But it travels on wheels; it’s moving, and quick

I miss my family, but I still have my son

And I am surrounded by everyone "

“Oh dear God! Do you see those flames?”

They look at me sadly, “She has gone insane…”

No I am just fine, but they don’t understand

What it is that waits for us in other lands

“I see a fire! Jews, listen to me!”

“She is crazed from thirst, obviously.”

I continue to scream, and holler, and shout

But they just don’t get what I’m talking about

They tie me up, and hit me on the head

“Don’t let her yell, Let us get some peace instead!”

"Wait, what was I thinking about before?

That’s right I missed my family. Now I want them more

I want to hold them all in a tight embrace

And bestow loving kisses on every face

But instead I’m stuck on this train

I wonder if I’ll see my husband again

When I do I’ll" “Look! Again! It’s the fire!”

They shake their heads at me; they think I’m a liar

Or consumed by some evil, or simply insane,

I guess I’m just standing here, shouting in vain

Now they tie me up again, angrier than before

They say, “She’s not the only one. I can’t take it anymore!”

Until we reach the camp, in the corner I’ll sit

They don’t want the truth, or any of it

Soon we see chimneys rising into black skies

“See? See the fire?” No, they weren’t lies.
