St. Valentine

St. Valentine

A Poem by Chris Needham
"

These are actually song lyrics that I wrote, not a poem, but what the hey!

"

St. Valentine

Verse:

Spill your love from wrists held aloft,

deep crimson red, is this enough?

The smiles on faces so happy and sweet,

what do they care that I'm losing sleep?

Broken hearts cover and litter the floor,

razor sharp blades from my bed to the door.

Careful baby, don't cut your feet

I wouldn't ever want to see you weep.

Chorus:
And on this day, this day of love

I search for something eternally lost.

Pieces of my soul caught on the wind

and the little boy lonely forever destined

to chase down what he never can catch,

my desires and I become totally detached.

Verse:

Empty rhymes in tribute to a broken art

Sentiments wasted on an absent heart.

Shut off to the world and cold to the touch

Who'd've thought I'd miss my mind this much?

Memories mislaid and empty dreams

There's nothing left over for me it seems.

Everyone's taken so close the book

No glancing back for one last look.

Repeat Chorus,

Close:

And on this day, this day of love

I search for something eternally lost.

Pieces of my soul caught on the wind

and the little boy lonely forever destined

to chase down what he never can catch,

my desires and I become totally detached.

And on this day, that’s nearly done

We all search for something all but gone.

Pieces of souls drift on the breeze,

we take what we can, a human disease.

The greed and lust of a million lives

colliding together before our eyes.
