Look at the pieces

Look at the pieces

A Poem by MrMarshall
"

A short, raw poem about lost love.

"
Don't pick up the pieces
Leave them on the floor
We weren't meant to be
At least that's what you thought
But tell me why just why
You couldn't look in my eyes
And tell me face to face
You took the way of cowards
You took the way of shame
Of words written
Not spoken
But shining on a screen
The tears they came
They ran red hot
As they fell away
No resolution
No discussion
No articulation
Sorry not sorry
I felt it too
I won't lie
Two who were one
Were now two again
But still to strike
A beating heart with
A blow so cruel
So absent
So sharp
And everything
I gave to you
No not materials
But love
Meant nothing
Became wind
Scattered
Discarded
I made mistakes
But so did you
Burdens heavy
On creaking shoulders
And to ease the load
You broke a heart
Now this isn't smooth
It's not well crafted
It jars
And stops
And starts
And it's jagged
But waxing lyrical
Came before
The shattering
Of something already fragile
So read this
Or don't
I no longer care
For love that I know
Is absent
But just look
Really look
At those pieces
Lying on the floor
They were one
Then two
And now sealed behind the door.
