Staring Into The Abyss With You

Staring Into The Abyss With You

A Poem by Martha Page
"

This is sheer me being dramatic with words. But I always write what I feel, it comes from inside me. I feel trapped, I write, like now...

"
Spaces too deep for me to see in
A long way to go before I go over
Though not so long as you know.
I can go a long time being afraid..
And I can stand at the cliffs edge for years.
Go ahead put my tear streaked face o'er
Make me look into the abyss below
I can hold
My own self up
For far longer than you fathom.
My beliefs were stricken dead
Over a decade ago
Do you think I'm afraid
Of your accepting abyss?
My mind's a miss and my heart leaps
I'm afraid but just barely;
Looking down at my eventual fate
I realize I just need to be stronger
Stronger than you
Somehow someway
I'll turn the table
You can look o'er the edge
And I'll  be okay.
