Cries

Cries

A Poem by Martiya Daman

Cries
I was out in a sunny day,
It was fun, I was in the way.
But when I entered a shop,
Something was off.

I saw some children sewing clothes,
Them still not earning loads,
Why in shops they are working,
Instead of homeworking?

I bent towards a wall,
I heard sounds of men call,
I heard Cries, I heard pain,
I hope these kids don't get sprains.

I heard sounds of Cries and beating,
Not fair leading,
If I am a child,
Why people want me smiled?

This is a powerful poem, Martiya! I'm sorry to hear that child labor is still being enforced in India, and you're right: they need a good education! Your words have a strong message, one that you're delivering greatly!

Ofc course!
I absolutely love this poem, it’s beautifully written. It powerfully portrays a child’s unsettling experience with child labor, expressing confusion, distress, and empathy. The vivid imagery of cries and pain emphasizes the unfair treatment these children face. The line questioning why people want the child to smile in such circumstances is especially thought-provoking. This poem calls for justice, and its emotional impact stays with you long after reading.
