The Shell

The Shell

A Poem by Honey-Bee

It was the day
I met you down
by the sea
Behind your back
you held a beautiful
shell just for me.
I kept it all these years
on the shelf
To remind me of the
 love we have between
ourselves
After all these years
I have grown to see
It was your heart you
gave me down by the sea.

I remember buying my girlfriend a CD album of our favourite band on her birthday. It didn't mean much, I just didn't know what else to get her. But when she told me she had lost it...I kind of felt upset then I realised that gifts are an expression of love; we give because we care and love. You managed to convey that message in that short lovely poem of yours.

Thanks William!
The trinkets we receive become more valuable with time. I enjoyed the story. Using the shell for the heart was very good. Thank you for sharing the excellent poetry.

Thanks Coyote!
Very well crafted... I enjoyed it, a little story told, both succinct and complete. I myself find that hard to do in a few words.
Very well done, Honey-Bee!

Thanks Engluva!
This is a great poem. Perhaps it could be love we had between us? I don't know, just a thought.

Thank you KL! Yes, I put ourselves to rhyme with shelves. I see the awkwardness here though.

I knew that's why you did it, I just made the suggest. Sometimes it works without the rhyme.
