No

No

A Poem by burnhouse

after everything you said -
everything you've told me
tears are all that's left
once again
you aren't here to hold me

you never really were

how am I supposed
to trust people
to let them rip my heart in two
(or even more pieces)
- wish it was more closed

it never really was

I
act like I forgot
the dimple on your cheek;
that I saw
when I was lucky enough to see you smile

I
act like I forgot
the curve of your lips;
that I felt
when I was lucky enough to kiss them

I
act like I forgot

but

I never really did.

The heart has a memory of its own and it is irrespective of the pragmatic memory of the mind...so sad. Your friend in words, Pete

Thankies. :)
Excellent poem. The way that you wrote it really pulled me in. Around the middle I had the thought, "The narrator is acting like she's forgetting but it seems like she can't." Then I read the ending and I smirked.

Very well done.
