Grandmother

Grandmother

A Poem by Mary Bosworth

in life i often
run in circles
forgetting
to sit with her
to hold her hand
(in silence)

on the way
to the hospital
in pain again
i wonder
what more can they do
(besides up her meds)

shedding the skin of life
walking towards the light
(or darkness?)
leaving her decrepit
beautiful body
i want to hold her hand
(in silence)

Thank you for this...it's how my mother felt when she lost her mother I think.

I have one of my grandmothers still living but she lives so far away. :(
When we visit I sit with her for hours at a time. She's a beautiful woman.
This is such a lovely poem.

I just made it home in time when I lost my grandmother. She was in a nursing home, unconscious with kidney failure, and not expected to live out the week. I loved her more than life itself...and this poem took me back to those tangible days.

Your phrasing of {in silence} was palpable...most beautiful!

Such a beautiful expression of watching a loved one in sickness. I am sorry for your pain and hold her hand till the very last breath. Life is precious, but a better world lies beyond.
