Well, I Wrote Your Name & Burned It

Well, I Wrote Your Name & Burned It

A Poem by Jesse Lancaster
"

Burn the thoughts and names from your head that continue you to haunt you, fall upon your shoulders with weight akin to lead.

"

We lit our names on fire

without you, an absentee
from our dance around the embers

as it burns all I ever knew--

mounds of flesh bruised black & blue.

She forgets more with every blink, almost as a lark

I'll descend from the high sky
with blurred eyes, can't adjust to the light

behind the glass mocking us with every smirk

revealing that blatant ruse, a visible crack in her guise

that splits open the eyes of our spies--

stomp out the ashes of you & I .

Author's Note

Jesse Lancaster
Inspired by Untitled 01 by Brand New off of their leaked demo "Fight off Your Demons".
It's said that if you write down thoughts that trouble you on paper and set them aflame, that they leave your head, at least for a while. I've done this a few times since. I'll add the pictures soon.
