Hacksaw Ridge

Hacksaw Ridge

A Poem by Markus Wolfe
"

A poem that came to me after having watched the film Hacksaw Ridge. A tribute to the memory of all the soldiers who went to war in Japan and to the children who never got to see their fathers.

"
Steadily they climb the sturdy net
Already gasping for air
Watching the ledge, that nasty snare
Ready to give what they're gonna get
Ans as they reach the gravely top
They see their kids in the playground
In the snow, playing, safe and sound
Throwing snowballs, whoosh and pop
But it all stops with the school bel ring
And you see a thousand snowflakes on the floor
Oh God let him save one more
Before they melt in the sun of spring.

Author's Note

Markus Wolfe
This was inspired by the film (itself inspired by a true story) that I, again, highly recommend you see. Feel free to give your opinion and re-use this poem if you want to.

"A real soldier fights not because he hates what is in front of him, but because he loves what is behind him"
-G.K.Chesterton-
