The Child in Me

The Child in Me

A Poem by A. L. Z.
"

In some way we all feel a little of a child.

"

Oh wake up. Wake up! Sleepy, lazy, sleepy head!

Why wont you move?

Why is it like you have no purpose?

Like life is not in you?

Yet your heart beats.  I hear it still.

With my head on your chest, it gives me a little thrill!

Then I look at your face, and nothing is there, no eyes to see, just lids stare at me.

Please oh please! Wont you wake for me?

Wont you rise with hope in your eyes?

Wont you laugh, like nothing as ever made you cry?

Wont you dance and sing, while you work to make things clean?

Never mind the mess for a moment, if only that moment were to alight a smile on me.

Turn your eyes, and look at me with delighted surprise!

That I am just what you wanted to see.

Exactly as me.

I see the inner frustration of how you wish you could just be that child even for a day and enjoy all the splendor of the world with a radiant smile on your face but it seems often we are so consumed by the sheer destructive nature of our world. I felt that and felt that urge to reawaken and see things simple and delightful again when a car ride with the windows rolled down and a hand sticking out could be the most magical thing. I miss that feeling and thrill as well. Thankfully I do get to enjoy that still these days. Great work
