I'm Sorry Mom (Poem)

I'm Sorry Mom (Poem)

A Poem by Damien Davison
"

Last writing I will be submitting for a while, I figured I should write a tribute to my mother.

"
I'm sorry mom,
For all the times I went against what was right.
You told me,
"When someone talks, boy, you look them in the eye."
I'm sorry,
You expected something great from my life.
But the drugs quickly dimmed
Who you've always thought was bright.

You saw me,
Go through s**t you could hardly understand.
You screamed out.
Could you see remnants of my old man?
I'm sorry,
The path I chose was not part of the plan.
But you kept up with support,
And always lent a helping hand.

I would starve.
I left home at sixteen, living on my own.
Then I'd call,
"Hey mom, think you could bring me just a loaf?"
She'd show up,
A car-load full of groceries, soap for laundry loads.
Then I'd wonder to myself,
"Why the f**k did I leave home?"

Not much changed,
I can't seem to keep a grip on success.
Addiction beat,
Though I can't say that I'm better than the rest.
I got my girl...
Am I a good dad, come on, let's be honest.
Mom, I need a true answer...
Mom, how can I fix this?

This is very interesting. The repetition of "I'm sorry." was especially good. It was a small reminder that no matter what we say, it's our actions that are important. The rhymes are all pretty good, adding nice structure to the piece without it being over the top. :-)

Why thank you for the review! I found the rhyming at the end, the last 3 lines, was a risk...

Heh, thank you Jack. Not all is gold though lol!
gotta love mom, so long as she's good to you, and your's sounds like a wonderful woman and role model. I'm sure she forgives you because she loves you, despite anything you feel the need to apologize for. This is a wonderful tribute to her.

A beautiful tribute and a heartfelt apology to your Mother. I'm sure she loved this. Now keep on proving that you mean it, and keep giving her reasons to restore faith and trust in you. At this time, your actions need to speak louder than your words, as beautiful as they may be. Good luck to you!

Your work amazes me because you have nothing to prove to the world.. You live it raw and have lived it hard and your strength and truth pours out onto the page. I admire your continuing journey and the fact that with each step there is another portion of healing taking place. Your Mom.. (like us all) ;) have a knowing and I'm sure that even in the darkest of moments she felt your heart. This is a beautiful tribute to not just her and her beauty as a person but for you also...xo
