The Game

The Game

A Poem by MeganRuth

I have a game for you,
did you want to play?
It only takes two,
what do you say?

First, you'll touch my arm
as you tell me a joke.
I'll be victim to your charm,
and laugh until I croak.

I'll try to play "Hard to Get"
since I've played this game before.
I refuse to be an asset,
a net for you to score.

But, you're an expert just as well,
your moves are far advanced.
You know just how to crack my shell,
and I become entranced.

The game is over just as swift
as it so easily begun.
One night, and then you start to drift,
and just like that, you won.

A familiar game indeed; and though the rules of engagement never really change, part of the fun is to play let's pretend it's all new, is it not.

Loved that second stanza, been there, heard the joke more than once. :))

Beccy.

Line 3 of the last two stanzas (especially the last one) to my ear is a tad iffy in musicality (a syllable is missing to flow smoother. However, everything else is absolutely fantastic!! Well done!
