Poison

Poison

A Poem by Mehar Anaokar

Lost my chance, lost my hope
Choked some poison down my throat
Just so I could drown my pain
But when whiskey went, pain came again
Sat there lonely for days on end
Said no to reason and no to friends
And as they slowly walked away
My disappointment turned to rage
I lashed out venom through my lips
And friends slipped further from my grip
So I tried to run, bottle in hand
Tried to make sense of all my plans
But frustration was all I could find
As they sneered at me in my mind
So I smashed the glass to the floor
Found some money, drank some more
Smoking helped, though not as much
But I still smoked to feel the rush
To feel something apart from shame
Because I had failed at my own game
I'd lost my chance, lost my hope
So I choked some poison down my throat
Just so I could drown my pain
But when whiskey went, pain came again
