Eye to eye

Eye to eye

A Poem by Mehar Anaokar

Our shouts shot out like darts
Between me and you
Our voices were like venom
Our hearts were open wounds

Words are all we have
But I had none to use
So we waited in silence
Hoping something would get through

And so we sat, staring
But not seeing eye to eye
Not much left to say
Not much to get by

A phone rang in the distance
You walked out of the room
I started to wipe my tears
And wiped away my feelings,too

When you came back the air was broken
The deafening silence grew
So many words unspoken
And nothing left to do

We looked at each other
Still not seeing eye to eye
You turned around to leave
I rose and said Goodbye
