Alright?

Alright?

A Poem by Mehar Anaokar

"Are you alright?
No, really
Is everything okay?
Why are you so quiet?
Are you hurting?
Can I do anything to ease the pain?"

"Don't worry
It's nothing
I'm sure that I'll be fine
Just a few bumps
A few hiccups
A few things on my mind"

"Are you sure?
You seem different
Than you used to be before
You used to smile
You used to laugh
You don't do that anymore"

"Of course I do
Quit bugging me
What's gotten into you?
Don't ask questions
Don't argue
This conversation is through"

"I heard you cry
Did you cry last night?
Please tell me what's going on
Let me in
Let it out
Let me know what's wrong"

"I told you
It's nothing
Don't be so distressed
We all cry
We all hurt
We all get a little upset
Tomorrow morning
I'll be fine
And it'll all be better
It'll be gone
All of it
Both my gloom and the weather"

"It's morning now
Hello?
Are you still asleep?
I'm glad you're ok
For the first time
I haven't heard you weep
Hello? Hello?
Will you answer?
Why won't you reply?
You haven't spoken
For three days
And I'm not really sure why...

I read it in the papers
I read about the pills
An overdose, how could you?
Too weak, but strong enough to kill."
